Bienvenido Welcome To Senora Behrens' Web Page Please contact me by email or by phone at (856) 358-2054, ext. 3177 Semester 1 Espanol I: The curriculum for Spanish I is intended to engage students in communication with spoken and written Spanish language. Students will become familiar with different perspectives of the target culture(s) through experiences with its products and practices. The course concentrates of the four aspects of communication: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Grammar is taught to support the effort to speak and understand a world language. Students will develop a working vocabulary and basic grammatical patterns will be introduced. World Culture and Conversations: This course is designed to introduce students to vocabulary of the Spanish language in order to converse in basic situations. The vocabulary includes topics such as greetings, numbers, alphabet, months, seasons, day of the week, family members, descriptions, food, and clothing. Emphasis is also placed on the culture of Spanish-speaking countries and those cultural situations one might encounter when visiting a foreign country.
WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: (Semester 1) Espanol I: M.P. 1 - Write a two-paragraph essay in Spanish about yourself. Describe yourself, family members, what you do, where, and with whom. Each paragraph should be at least five sentences in length. M.P. 2 - Choose a Spanish-speaking country. Use the following website to research different aspects of the country: http://countrystudies.us/ Write a two-paragraph essay comparing and contrasting that country with the United States. In the first paragraph, address the similarities and in the second, the differences.
World Culture and Conversations: M.P. 1 - Write a two-paragraph essay on the following topic: What does culture mean to you? M.P. 2 - Read the article on Spain and its 17 provinces. Write a two-paragraph essay comparing and contrasting Spain and the United States.

Students will develop a working vocabulary and basic grammatical patterns will be introduced. Espanol III: The curriculum for Spanish III is intended to engage students in communication with spoken and written Spanish language. Students will also continue to familiarize themselves with different perspectives of the target language culture through experiences with its products and practices. Through the study of thematic vocabulary and more advanced grammatical structures, students will be able to imitate appropriate gestures, intonation, and common idiomatic expressions through social interaction. The course continues to build on the four aspects of communication: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Espanol IV CP: The curriculum of this course is designed to meet the needs of students who are interested in learning to communicate in a world language at an advanced level. Additionally, students will be exposed to the cultural similarities and differences as they relate to Spanish-speaking countries. The class focuses on four content areas: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will acquire a working knowledge of thematic vocabulary and advanced grammatical structures to enhance their ability to communicate in all four content areas of a second language. Espanol II: The curriculum of this course is designed to meet the needs of students who are interested in learning to communicate in a world language. Additionally, students will be exposed to the cultural similarities and differences as they relate to Spanish-speaking countries. The class focuses on four content areas: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Listening and speaking are the areas of the highest concentration. Students will acquire a working knowledge of thematic vocabulary while grammar is taught to support the effort to speak and understand a second language.
Grading Percentages: Tests/Quizzes = 30% Projects = 25% Class Work/Participation = 25% Homework = 20% Each marking period is worth 45% of the semester grade. The final exam is 10% of the final semester grade.
