TEACHING SCHEDULE 1ST SEMESTER

 

Block 1             English 12AP

This course is designed 

Writing task #1

Students will compare and contrast scenes from three film versions of Hamlet.  Students will have read all three scenes as well as viewed at least three versions of the play.  Peer and instructor revision will be part of this assignment as well as individual conferences as requested/needed.  Multiple drafts will be encouraged to insure quality.

Writing task #2

Students will write a college admissions essay for an institution to which they are planning to apply. Class time will spent on gathering, organizing and revising the papers.  Peer and instructor revision will be part of this assignment as well as individual conferences as requested/needed.  Multiple drafts will be encouraged to insure quality.

 

Block 3 & 4      English 12CP

This course is designed for the student planning to continue studies in a post-secondary institution. The content of the course emphasizes British literature, including nonfiction, drama, short stories, poetry and novels. It is designed to develop cultural perspective, critical principals of evaluation, comprehension of relationships between cultural-historical achievement and literary production. Writing ranges from handling of abstract concepts to critical evaluation of literary works. Additional emphasis on vocabulary, rhetoric, logic and literary philosophy is offered in combination with writing in various genres.

Using various reference materials, students will research, organize and write a paper analyzing one aspect of an author's writing.  This assignment is based on the short story unit completed previously.  Peer and instructor revision will be part of this assignment as well as individual conferences as needed.  Multiple drafts will be encouraged to insure quality.

 

Block 3 12AP Seminary

This is an continuation of the Advanced Placement class from the first semester.  Students meet to read, discuss and write about various literature as assigned.  Further preparation for the exam includes practice tests, past essay topics and continued reading.
