  FOR TEACHERS

During regularly scheduled library periods, your students will be learning about traditional library topics (types of books, arrangement of books, the card catalog, parts of books, and reference books), and exploring various nonprint sources.  Since we feel that it's more effective to teach these skills in conjunction with classroom content, please feel free to suggest research topics, as we'd love to coordinate our projects with your curriculum.  Also, please feel free to inform us of any books or materials that we should consider for purchase to support your classroom activities.

Fourth graders may check out two books at a time.  Third grade classes will also be permitted to check out two books beginning second marking period.  First and second graders may take out one book.  All books have a one-week loan period, but books may be renewed.  We encourage our "busiest" readers to exchange books, as needed, prior to 9:15 A.M.

In addition to teaching your students information literacy, we'd like to support your classroom activities.  Teachers are permitted to borrow unlimited library books for as long as needed  We have a growing professional collection of books and software.  There is also a graded multiple copy collection, a video collection, and supplementary literary units for selected titles.

Teachers may sign out audio-visual equipment (overhead projectors, listening centers, cassette players, etc.) on either an all-year, or a short-term basis.  Lists are maintained in the Media Center Office.  There are currently four computer projectors, roughly one for each grade level.  Please sign up for these in advance as demand is quite high.

We are members of the Salem County Film Library.  Tuesday is delivery/pick-up day.  Ordering is now done on-line at www.salemcountyava.org

We will publish "Library News & Notes" monthly.  Copies will also be archived on this site
