C, C++, and Java are portable languages meaning they can be run on different hardware platforms (ie, IBM and PC compatibles that usually run a version of Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, AS400, etc). If you need C or C++ compilers for the PC, you can find a free version on the web somewhere, but I recommend Borland's or Turbo's Versions. The Qbasic that we will be learning runs in DOS (for PC compatibles only). Below, however, you can download a DOS emulator for the Macintosh, and then run Qbasic on that (also downloadable below).
